About the Tournament
Roberts County Rescue holds the annual Bitter Lake Walleye Challenge to raise money and awareness for life-saving equipment and training for rescue members.
The Roberts County Rescue provides emergency managements services in Roberts County, South Dakota.
About Roberts County Rescue Squad
Roberts County Rescue was formed in 1987 from a group of men that saw the need for assistance for emergency situations. The entity is owned and operated by its members and hold a 501 3c non-profit status. They were able to purchase a used van and some basic extrication tools with the h/lp of community support.
As the years progressed more tools were purchased and a few more men joined the squad. In 1995 we out grew the old panel van and were able to purchase a 1995 one ton rescue truck, we then were able to purchase additional rescue tools as needed.
Roberts Co. Rescue depends solely on grants, fundraisers and donations to operate. In 2013 it was decided by its members to do a fishing tournament for a fund raiser. It was to be held at Bitter Lake in S.D. and would be called the Bitter Lake Walleye Challenge. This tournament draws fisherman from Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
With the success of the tournaments, grants and donations we were able to upgrade and purchase some new equipment to help make rescues more efficient. In 2018 we were able to upgrade trucks again to a larger heavy rescue truck to house the new and upgraded tools. We also purchased new electric spreaders, ram and shears in 2022.
Thanks to your support we are able to keep up with new lifesaving tools and equipment. We can keep training on new techniques to be prepared for what comes our way. Robets County Rescue is run solely on volunteers who come to the call when needed at anytime of the day, rain or shine.
While traveling through our district we wish you safe travels. We have different tiers of support, for sponsorship: $1500.00 for the guarantee of first place which gets highlighted on advertising and 250.00 for all other sponsors. This gives you advertising on a t-shirt given to all contestants and sponsors, also radio advertising the week of tournament and the day of tournament at weigh-ins. We also will have all sponsors put on our website each year. As said before, we are a 501 3c non profit organization so your donation is deductible on your taxes. Again we thank you for your support.
